Katerina ousts second seed Belgian Flipkens to qualify

DUBAI — Katerina Avdiyenko of Ukraine put up a confident display to oust second seed Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium for a spot in the final round of the Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge at the Habtoor Grand Resort and Spa yesterday.
Avdiyenko, who went down 3-6 in the first set, made a strong recovery with some awesome volleys to take the next two sets 6-2, 6-4 to join seven other players to battle for the four slots in the main draw.
The Ukrainian will now face sixth seed Pemra Ozgen in the final round. The other seeds, however, had no such problems as they breezed into the final round.
Top seed Irena Pavlovic of France defeated Martina Gregoric of Croatia 6-0, 6-2, while sixth seed Pemra Ozgen of Turkey dropped a set but managed to oust Amra Sadikovic of Switzerland 6-3, 4-6, 7-6.
